Amy and David McKinstry's Ancestors
A Very Old Document
This is the document
where my Grandfather, Tom McKinstry,
bought the family farm. This document was given to me by my
cousin, Don Hubler. Notice the date, it was a very serious
long
time ago.
He purchased the land from the Illinois Central Railroad. The
railroad was given land for 50 miles on each side of the tracks.
Yes, 50 miles
on each
side. The tracks go through DuBois, Ill, near Route 51.
This document is legal-sized (not letter size) so I had to scan it in
two pieces.
I noticed the name Robert
T.
Lincoln. I believe
that is the son of Abraham Lincoln.
Someone said "They don't teach penmanship any more". The
writing
was probably done with a fountain pen, which is much harder to use than
a ballpoint pen.
