Lake Pontchartrain

Until I planned my trip and used a map to drive around the area, I had no idea how the land was laid out.

After flowing south from Minnesota to Louisiana, the Mississippi River turns east and snakes along south of Metairie and New Orleans.

To the north of Metairie and New Orleans is a huge lake, Lake Pontchartrain.

I tried to drive near the lake, but in many places it was blocked by levees.

One day I found myself driving along a road next to the lake with places to stop and park.

There were a lot of birds around because people were there feeding them.
